Classic Bike

I am restoring a classic bike? a Raleigh All Steel, I am going to use this page to record the restoration steps which I hope to keep minimal and as original as possible.

Interesting fact:  the frame number doesn't match up to any listed number after asking on the forums someone who worked in the factory says it was a jigging frame used to make sure a run of frames was correct so it would be measured for accuracy - so fairly rare to see one assembled.

As you can see it's going well fully working apart from the lights needing some attention.

Parts bought so far:

1. Replacement key (done found someone on ebay who makes them AWESOME)
2. Replacement sturmey archer battery pack

Job left to do:

3. Rust removal - only rechrome the brake levers
4. source a period saddlebag & possibly handlebar bag (done got a chossy)
5. Source a replacement raleigh rear reflector (done)
6. Source a set of period mudguard flaps
7. clean and restore bottom of rear mudguard (in progress)
8. fit and repair light fittings to include the battery pack

(have decided to have the frame clearcoated after i have removed the degraded stickers and replaced with the repro ones so it's a stripdown again  and then  rebuild)

wish I could find someone who could paint the gold striping back on.

Ride Plans:

l'eroica  and a lejogthen I will probably donate to the bicycle museum.
